How To Find Us

1. By Car to Brownhills West Station

The Railway's headquarters at Brownhills West Station are situated in Chasewater Country Park, Brownhills, near Walsall.

The postal address is: Chasewater Railway, Chasewater Country Park, Pool Road, nr. Brownhills, Staffs WS8 7NL (click here for map). Telephone: 01543 452623.

The main entrance to the park is Pool Road, a slip road leading off the southbound A5 (Watling Street) just south of its junction with the A452 (Chester Road). Brown tourism direction signs are provided on the northbound and southbound carriageways of the A5 in the vicinity of the park.

If travelling along the A452 (Chester Road) from Walsall/Brownhills, turn right on to the southbound A5 at the "Rising Sun" Island and follow the brown tourism direction signs on the A5.

Following the signs, turn left into the park immediately after passing over the M6 Toll Road. Continue through the park until reaching Brownhills West Station.

2. By bus to Brownhills West Station

Most of the suitable bus services terminate at Brownhills West (Rising Sun Island), which is the junction of the A5 (Watling Street) and the A452 (Chester Road). The "Crown" Public House is also located at the Island.

Alight at the Rising Sun Island. Proceed along Wilkin Road (a minor road leading directly off the Island, on the side nearer to the Crown PH). At the end of Wilkin Road, turn left into Hednesford Road.

Cross to the opposite pavement and almost immediately follow a new footpath, alongside Poole Crescent,into Chasewater Country Park. This footpath crosses over the new M6 Toll Road and the station complex is clearly evident from the footbridge, on the left hand side. Walking time approx. 15 minutes.

Note: On the services indicated * below, alight at Poole Crescent (near the junction of Hednesford Road/Wilkin Road). The footpath into Chasewater Country Park runs alongside Poole Crescent - see preceding paragraph. Walking time approx. 10 minutes.

3. Travelling to Brownhills West station on Sundays

The Railway operates passenger trains on every Sunday (except Christmas Day) throughout the year - check the timetable pages for details.

Sunday Services from Walsall Bus Station:

  • Diamond Bus (Birmingham Coach Co.) - Service 362: Hourly from 10.40am from Stand K. (Journey time approx 25 mins.)
  • Travel West Midlands (TWM) - Service 395A: Hourly from 10.10am from Stand L. (Journey time approx 25 mins.)
  • Return from Rising Sun Island at xx.08 (362) and xx.32 (395A)

Sunday Services from Birmingham (Carrs Lane):

  • Diamond Bus - Service 56 and 56A: 10.00 and thence half hourly from 11.00 from Carrs Lane, Stand DJ. (Journey time approx. 57 mins.)
  • Return from Rising Sun Island half hourly at xx.00 and xx.30 until 16.00, thence hourly.

4. Travelling to Brownhills West on Saturdays & Midweek

The Railway operates Saturday train services during July, August & September, plus Saturdays and Mondays of Bank Holiday weekends.
The Railway also operates on Wednesdays during the summer school holiday period, until the end of August.

Saturday Services from Walsall Bus Station:

  • *Arriva - Service 63: Half -hourly at xx.25 and xx.55 from Stand L. (Journey time approx. 30 mins.)
  • *Return from Poole Crescent at xx.10 and at xx.40

Saturday and Midweek Services from Birmingham (Carrs Lane):

  • Diamond Bus - Service 56 and 56A: Half-hourly at xx.00 and xx.30 from Carrs Lane, Stand DJ (Journey time approx 60 mins.) (Midweek departures may vary)
  • Return from Rising Sun Island half-hourly at xx.08 and at xx.38 until 16.08. Thereafter at 16.43 and 17.30 and thence hourly from 18.00. (Midweek departures may vary)

Saturday and Midweek Services from Hednesford and Cannock:

  • *Arriva - Service 33: every 15 minutes between Hednesford Bus Station, Cannock Bus Station and Brownhills High Street, and vice versa. (Journey time from Hednesford approx 37 mins. and from Cannock Bus Station approx 20 mins.)
  • *Return services from Poole Crescent every 15 minutes.

5. By car to Chasewater Heaths Station

Chasewater Heaths Station is situated in Station Approach, immediately adjacent to the A5190 Miners Way (Burntwood Bypass), Chasetown.

The postal address is: Chasewater Heaths Railway Station, Station Approach, off Miners Way, Chasetown, Burntwood, Staffs. WS7 3PG (click here for map Please note that the Burntwood Bypass has not yet been added to maps of the area.).

6. Travelling by Bus to Chasewater Heaths Station

Visitors from Cannock and Lichfield travelling by public transport are invited to consider using Chasewater Heaths Station, as there are no convenient bus services to Brownhills West Station.

For train departure times from Chasewater Heaths Station, refer to Timetable page.

The services mentioned below stop at Sankeys Corner (Burntwood Library). Alight here and proceed along High Street (alongside the Library). At the traffic island, bear right along A5190 Milestone Way (Burntwood Bypass). Continue along Milestone Way; Chasewater Heaths Station is located directly ahead at the second island. Brown tourism direction signs for Chasewater are provided on A5190.

Walking time approx. 15 minutes.

7. Travelling to Chasewater Heaths Station on Sundays

Sunday Services from Cannock and Lichfield:

  • Arriva - Service 860 (Cannock - Lichfield - Cannock): Services from Cannock Bus Station every hour from 09.08 to Sankeys Corner and services from Lichfield Bus Station every hour from 09.05 to Sankeys Corner.
  • Return services from Sankeys Corner: to Cannock every hour from 12.31 until 19.31 and to Lichfield every hour from 12.32 until 18.32

8. Travelling to Chasewater Heaths Station on Saturdays

Saturday Services from Cannock and Lichfield:

  • Arriva - Service 860, 861 & 862 (Cannock - Lichfield - Cannock): Frequent services from Cannock Bus Station (journey time approx. 35 minutes) and Lichfield Bus Station (journey time approx 25 minutes) to Sankeys Corner, Chase Terrace.
