News : UPDATED… Industrial Spring Gala 29th/30th March 2014

2014-13 SRail Adv Ind Gala v6

Our gala (10am to 5pm) is nearly here and we are hoping to see many of you come along to enjoy the weekend.  Our special guest locomotive is a Sentinel named Gervase which features a vertical boiler design on what will be its first visit to the colliery line. It is also the first opportunity to travel over the revised track layout at Brownhills West.

We will be running an intensive passenger service 11am onwards featuring a further three steam locomotives which are Long term guest Bagnall Kent No.2, and Little and large from the home fleet which are 103 year old Andrew Barclay “Colin McAndrew” and the powerful local engine RSH “Nechells No.4” affectionately known as Nellie, Finally diesel shunters BR 08 D3429 / Hunslet 6678 will be in use at Brownhills West.

The event also will see 10t Permanent Way steam crane built by Taylor Hubbard steamed for demonstrations at Brownhills West Yard where diesel shunters may also be seen doing their duties.

Please note the Brake van rides advertised in earlier promotional posters and railway press are no longer available due to the remodelling of Brownhills West track requiring additional work but this gives us scope to run short freight trains and many interesting locomotive combinations over the weekend. Due to these works a timetable will not be available until the gala

There has been much interest and requests to visit the ongoing work by the S&T department to signal boxes at Brownhills West & Chasewater Heaths stations and we will endeavour to arrange visits to them if at all possible and operationally safe. All visits are at the discretion of the Duty Controller at the relevant station.

As ever prices are great value for money at £5.95 for Adults and £2.95 Children. Valid for travel on all available passenger trains on date of issue. (No Concessions, Members who are not volunteers are £2 each Adult, HRA passes not valid for travel during special events, all services subject to availability and conditions of travel). Photographers are most welcome at Chasewater Railway.

Mom’s accompanied by their fare paying son/daughter will travel free on Sunday 30th March, don’t forget a Sunday Carvery is also available at The Sidings tea room. Please note due to demand booking for the carvery is essential. (Tel 01543 452623 Weds-Sun 10 am – 3pm)

Finally please enjoy your visit and any late updates can be found on our Facebook page. We want all visitors and volunteers to enjoy a safe gala so please respect any requests made by our volunteer staff and do not leave platforms/public footpaths to go on the track or lineside areas.

We look forward to welcoming you to Chasewater Railway.
