Austerity No.66 at Chasewater

Friday 4th September & Saturday 5th September 2015
Continuing our Summer Festival of Industrial steam which has gone very well and with thanks to the Chasewater Railway we are pleased to announce early September dates with visiting Austerity 3890 from the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre. This locomotive holds the honour of being the last built standard gauge steam engine built for the UK market in 1964 . The locomotive became No. 66 in the South Yorkshire NCB fleet and was sent to Cadeby Main Colliery, Conisborough where she had a brief working life being withdrawn in 1970. Returned to steam this year this will be her second visit away from Quainton Road having visited the Hunslet 150 gala at Middleton. The locomotive is visiting for the Railways annual gala over the weekend of the 5th and 6th September. More of the history of the engine as well as images can be found on the BRC website

Friday 4th September We will commence at 10am at Brownhills West with 66 and making use of the railways rakes of coal wagons. This will include the newly delivered MGR wagons making their first charter appearance and probably the first time on a preserved railway this has been seen. There are currently three on the railway and it is hoped that another three may have arrived in time for our event. Chasewater is of course also home to a rake of both internal user and BR 16t wagons. We have full use of the line and will include the causeway crossing . Cost for the day is £45 with 25 places available

Our charter will conclude around 5:30 pm

Saturday 5th September
As part of the railways gala we are hosting an evening session at Brownhills west which will feature No.66 alongside residents Holly Bank No.3, Colin McAndrew and Teddy . Kick off will be around 6pm (tbc) once the days running is concluded and will feature a number of false departures from the yard , shed scenes and finally a short flood lit photo shoot . Cost is £20 or £15 if booking the day charter as well.

As always a very big thank you for all your support . Without it these events can’t run and as always we look forward to welcoming you on an event in 2014 . Places can be reserved by e-mail . Cheques made payable to 30742 Charters and sent to 20 Portia Avenue, Shirley, Solihull , B90 2NW or payments accepted via PayPal
